The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust successfully implemented their new EPIC EPR in March this year –the “smoothest” go-live to date, facilitated by integration partners, Egress Group.
As part of the “largest and most important digital transformation in The Royal Marsden’s history”, Egress successfully delivered more than 50 new and refactored interfaces for 15 critical systems used across the specialist cancer Trust.
The Royal Marsden NHS Trust has a complex integration estate, which reaches beyond the hospital and includes interoperability with neighbouring London trusts. These critical and complex integrations needed to be managed early-on as a fundamental part of the EPIC implementation to ensure no loss or unexpected changes to service at go-live and beyond.
A complex integration estate, reaching to other neighbouring trusts … successfully delivered without loss of service
The Trust understood that early engagement with a partner with proven experience in other large-scale NHS programmes, would pay dividends as the project unfolded. As such, Egress delivered the full integration workstream successfully. Egress involvement covered changes required as part of the EPIC implementation; delivering InterSystems development capacity to enact required redevelopment; conducting technical testing and supporting the business through functional testing to assure continuity of services post EPIC implementation.
This digital transformation project will provide a range of benefits for clinicians, operational staff and also patients, ultimately creating improved workflows for care teams and a smoother care journey for patients, all of which will contribute to an enhanced experience for all.
David Newey, CIO, The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, commented:
“The largest and most important digital transformation programme in The Royal Marsden’s history. Today was a good day! Of all the go-lives I’ve been party to, this was the smoothest, in no small part to an amazing team, trust and our supplier community.”
The programme went live at 16:00 on 17th March 2023, with the integration workstream delivered on time and to expected budget.
