Egress Group is delighted to have joined openEHR International this month, signalling its commitment to ensuring health data is made available for safe, standardised sharing for the benefit of patient care.
A not-for-profit organisation, openEHR International is made up of a global community of clinicians, providers, supplier organisations, industry representatives and developers, all dedicated to creating an open platform that future proofs patient care.
A true, patient-centric health record ensures data and alerts, irrespective of the system and setting they are recorded in, are accessible to clinicians, other care professionals and the patient, giving better continuity of care and reducing risks and errors. This is supported by openEHR’s development of standards and semantic models to advance the safe sharing and robust use of information across systems and care settings. Over the past 15 years, almost 3000 clinicians from 90+ countries have created over 800 clinical data models, all of which are freely published and available for use.
Here at Egress Group, we wholeheartedly believe that open data standards are fundamental to the future of patient care.
Too often data is siloed in proprietary, standalone systems which means clinicians don’t always have access to an individual’s full care record. Freely available standards, based on clinically defined models, unlock that data making it available at the point of care, supporting better informed decisions.
It is also so important in terms of research, which will support wider innovations for our health services, such as proactive and predictive care. This will have such positive impacts, not just for individual patients, but for at-risk cohorts, right through to entire populations.
We are looking forward to sharing ideas, innovation and knowledge with other members and contributing our data expertise to help shape and advance the future of truly holistic, patient care.
