The Royal Marsden: 50+ interfaces

delivered as part of EPIC EPR Implementation

The Business Challenges

The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust have a complex integration estate extending to interoperability within neighbouring trusts within London. These critical integrations needed to be managed as part of their EPIC Electronic Patient Record implementation to ensure no loss or unexpected changes to service both within the Trust and with external organisations.

Addressing their Challenges

Egress provided EPR implementation and integration expertise to ensure that the integration workstream was delivered successfully. This involved understanding the changes required as part of the EPIC implementation; delivering InterSystems development capacity to enact required redevelopment; conducting technical testing and supporting the business through functional testing to assure continuity of services post EPIC implementation.

This involved working closely with the Trust business and technical teams as well as EPIC integration leads in order to successfully deliver, and accurately track the progress of, this complex workstream.

Customer Benefits

Egress enabled Royal Marsden to scale up in terms of capability and capacity to recover from a position of delays to delivery, subsequently helping the Trust to achieve all integration requirements as part of the EPIC implementation. Egress’ teams supplemented their internal Integration team and worked in collaboration to achieve the required results successfully. This ensured that the EPIC implementation could be completed, delivering clinical benefits to the Trust, whilst protecting as-usual services.

The outcome

The integration workstream was delivered on time and on budget and the wider programme was a success with all integrations transitioned as expected. There were circa 50 new and refactored interfaces delivered for this programme from more than 15 critical clinical systems.

“The largest and most important digital transformation programme in The Royal Marsden’s history. Today was a good day! Of all the go-lives I’ve been party to, this was the smoothest, in no small part to an amazing team, trust and our supplier community.”
